Obama makes history

Union County Post staff report

Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) clinched the Democratic Party's nomination for the U.S. Presidential race on Tuesday night with 2,156 delegates.
Gaining overwhelming approval from the people's votes, Obama became the first African-American candidate to be nominated by a major party for the nation's top office.
To take him over the top, Obama picked up 57 percent of the primary vote in Montana and 45 percent of the South Dakota vote on Tuesday.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), the Republican presumptive presidential nominee, is looking to face Sen. Obama in a series of debates before the November general election. At the polls, in November, the country is charged to select one of the two as its new leader.
Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) earned a total of 1,923 delegates in the quest for the Democratic nomination against Obama. The Democratic Party heads to the Democratic National Convention on August 25-28. The choice of Obama's Vice Presidential running mate is yet to be announced.
