Summer activities at the library
Readers of all ages can "Be Creative @ the Marysville Public Library" this summer at the Marysville Public Library. Our annual Summer Reading Program will begin on Monday, June 8 at both locations (Main and Raymond Branch). Readers from 2-11 years old will be asked to read 12 hours this summer. They will receive a prize after reading 4, 8 and 12 hours. Readers 12-18 years old will be asked to read 8 books this summer. They will receive book bucks to buy prizes after reading each book. Everyone over 18 will be asked to read 8 books. They will be eligible for weekly prize drawings for really great prizes every time they read a book! And everyone who completes the program will receive a "Be Creative @ Your Library" t-shirt! You don't want to miss the fun. Sign-ups start June 8 and the program will end August 1. To get your packet, stop by the circulation desk or one of the reference desks.
Every Wednesday at 3:30pm starting June 10 through August 5, teens can come to the Summer Gaming Tournament at the Marysville Public Library. Every week a new game, every week a new winner. At the end of the summer, the two top players will battle it out for the chance to win great prizes! Participants do not need to preregister, but they do need to select a username when they arrive at the gaming tournament. Teens only please (ages 12-18).
Stop by the main library’s Meeting Room B to get one-on-one help with mouse and keyboarding skills at our Computer Skills Open Lab on Saturday, June 13, 10:00am-12:00pm. No registration is required.
Children (Kindergarten – 6th grade) and their caregivers are invited to Be Creative Mondays to learn different ways to be creative each Monday starting Monday, June 15 at 1:30pm. Upcoming events: June 15 & 22 – Drama, June 29 – Dancing, July 6 – Storytelling, July 13 – Gymnastics, July 20 – Cartooning, July 27 – Library “Idol” contest. No registration is required.
Stop in to the main library’s open lab for job seekers on Monday, June 15, 5:00-8:00pm. We can answer questions about online job searching, resumes, and completing online applications. No registration is required.
If you’ve ever considered flying as a hobby, check out “Take Flight!” at the Marysville Public Library on Thursday, June 18 at 6:30pm. John Sollinger, pilot and flight instructor, will tell what it takes to become a pilot. Registration is underway – call 642-1876 ext. 21 or go to our website (www.marysvillelib.org) to register.
Everyone wants to save money! Marcy Robison, writer of the blog Stretching a Buck (www.stretchingabuckblog.com), will share her methods for using coupons most effectively on Wednesday, June 24 at 6:30pm. Children in grades 2-5 can drop by the Marysville Public Library to create their own kite to take home on Saturday, June 27, anytime between 11:00am – 1:00pm. No registration is required.
This month’s Anime Club feature at the Marysville Public Library is Love Hina on Saturday, June 27, 2:30-5:00pm. Teens only please.
Computer Classes:
The Marysville Public Library will be offering a computer class “Internet for the First Time” at the main library on Monday, June 22 at 10:00am. This class is for those who want to learn how to use the internet. Topics covered: internet terminology, Internet Explorer, web addresses, search engines, some popular and useful sites, and how to print. Students who take this class should be comfortable using a computer. Registration begins one week before the class. The Marysville Public Library will be offering a computer class “E-mail Basics” at the main library on Tuesday, July 7 at 6:00pm. This class is for those who want to learn how to use web-based email. Topics covered: setting up an email account, formatting and sending a message, reading messages, and printing. Students should have a basic knowledge of computers and the internet. The Marysville Public Library will be offering a computer class “E-mail Beyond the Basics” at the main library on Tuesday, July 14 at 6:00pm. This class is for people who want to learn a little more about using Gmail e-mail. Topics covered: saving and opening attachments, attaching files/pictures to outgoing email, adding contacts and managing your address book. Students MUST have an established Google e-mail account to take this class. Registration begins one week before the class.
