Strickland right choice?

Free flu shots for senior citizens are just one service provided by Union County Senior Services.
Partnerships that produce fruits in the Autumn are plentiful at the Healthy Senior Program. The fruit is happy and "seasoned" citizens. The outreach effort of Union County Senior Services is bearing fruits in the form of activities for participants.
The Healthy Senior Program exposed area senior citizens to freshness throughout the summer and took them on a field trip to a local market, From My Garden, on September 6.
From My Garden, a market that features home-grown and homemade products, is located at 19383 St Rt 4 N. The market is owned and operated by Linda Sanford.
There are 181 seniors enrolled in the Union County Senior Service's Healthy Senior Program this year.
Through Healthy Seniors, lower income persons received coupons to be used at the local farmer's market and some roadside stands during the summer. The program runs from July through September and provides each senior with monthly coupons for $20 in fresh fruits, vegetables, honey and jams. It is part of Senior Services' proactive health program.
To enhance the Union County Senior Service's Healthy Senior Program's mission of providing information on topics of interest to participants, the program featured Dr. Charlotte Agnone of Marysville, Ohio Surgical Center. Dr. Agnone spoke to a record-size audience – 66 seniors – at the Union County Senior Services' Senior Coffee on October 2. Dr. Agnone, who spoke about how nutrition affects your vision, took many questions from the audience.
The seniors were able to hear advice about how to take care of their eyes, have questions answered and to socialize.
As a treat, participants were served an eye-healthy breakfast – a spinach and parsley omelet cooked in olive oil. The omelet recipe was supplied by Dr. Agnone. Other items were added to round out a vitamin-rich nutritious meal – whole grain toast, natural jams, as well as pomegranate and blueberry juices.
The next Union County Senior Services Coffee on November 13 will feature Chrissy DeVine of the Ohio Department of Insurance Program (OSHIIP), who will discuss Medicare. Senior Coffees are free and are held at the Agricultural Services Building, 18000 St Route 4 in Marysville.
Medicare is a somewhat confusing matter for older members of the population and their families. Seniors are encouraged to bring their questions and will be able to sign up for personal appointments with OSHIIP-certified Union County Senior Services' staff who will assist them in reviewing their Medicare choices.
The senior population of Union County is mobile because of the services of Union County Agency Transportation Service (UCATS). The shuttle service provides free transportation to and from the market and other destinations for seniors who do not drive.
Seniors participated in an outing to the Columbus Zoo earlier in the year compliments of UCATS.
