Benny’s Carry Out: A Grand Opening

On June 6, Fred and Robin Neumier celebrated the grand opening of Benny’s Pizza. The carryout and catering kitchen will help to eliminate time spent waiting on food orders on Friday and Saturday nights. I recently had a chance to sit down with Fred to find out how this Marysville gathering spot came about.
In 1996, Fred purchased Benny’s, stating that they had investigated about a dozen locations in the Columbus and Delaware areas before coming to Marysville. Fred told me that he came into Benny’s, tried the pizza, liked it and the location. He further stated that he saw the great potential that Marysville has and wanted to be part of it.
Fred’s background in the restaurant business is vast. It all started as a freshman in high school. Coming from a family of 19 children, Fred joked that he had to learn to cook restaurant-style to make meals for the home crowd. He continued through college and worked 17 years at the Bogey Inn, a popular Dublin watering hole.
When asked about what comes next, Fred smiled and said, “to catch my breath with two major expansions in the past two years, that’s a lot.” He did say that some minor modifications to the old kitchen are coming next. Fred said he is going to expand both catering and the food menu. One future addition is a beer batter fish that will rival Columbus’ best. It is a recipe that he perfected in other restaurants he has managed.
Also, the arrival of a second smoker will allow Benny’s to offer daily the smoked brisket and pulled pork that is only offered as a weekend item.
